Workforce Development | Impact Access

Wilco has been dedicated to the creation of workforce development and job opportunities within the communities it serves for over 40 years. With the understanding that the need for a more tech-reliant workforce will be key, Wilco provides smart tech workforce opportunities that are now augmenting housing markets.

Through quasi-governmental and industry specific partnerships, Wilco provides training and apprenticeships within the access control sector that include low voltage wiring, installation of video surveillance and access control platforms, configuration of access control hardware and software technologies, and an overall baseline of IT and the integration of comprehensive smart building access controls.

Training in real estate driven technologies that include Access Control, PropTech, IoT, Energy and Green technologies, HVAC building controls, will be the required upskills needed for the new workforce, especially as we all adjust and transition past COVID. The design and convergence of technology and real estate will be key to building sustainable and affordable housing as well as accelerating the trend of safeguarding the places where we live, work and play.

Digital Access | Bridging the Digital Divide

Wilco has been a longstanding and staunch advocate to increasing digital broadband access within underserved and lower income communities for decades. In the wake of COVID-19, the accelerated digitization of our society has exposed the inequities that result from lack of access to essential resources and tools for communities to achieve social outcomes. The urgency to close the digital divide: the gap between those who are connected to high-speed internet at home and those who are not, has resurfaced as an uptmost priority.

Because of the digital divide, access to education and virtual school platforms is limited, millions of lower income citizens lack basic digital literacy skills that make them unqualified to fill higher-paying 21st Century jobs.

Digital tools are reinventing work, the workplace, the educational system, the new workforce, access to food, healthcare and housing, especially during these unprecedented times of 2020.

Researchers have studied the causes of the digital divide and most research conducted by the Census Bureau and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), has found that the most significant reason is a complex mix of issues including cost of a home computer and the cost of internet service, a perceived lack of relevance of the Internet, a lack of understanding about its value or usefulness, and a lack of digital literacy.

Over the last few years, Wilco has been instrumental in creating several substantial private/public partnerships providing innovative solutions to address digital disparities and lack of representation within technology sectors across the Nation, thus positioning Wilco, as a broadband and technology leader, specifically working on behalf of disadvantaged and underrepresented communities.

Real Estate Development | Community Engagement

As part of its impact endeavors, Wilco assists CRE, Multi-family developers and real estate partners to strategically position intention to community engagement and economic development, within real estate projects.

We help align economic and community impact goals that include workforce development, training and apprenticeship opportunities, and a focus on demography and not just geography. We help build not only return on Investment but return on community through the creation of social impact real estate development.

Wilco strategizes with partners to help build a holistic and equitable development approach that leverages the community’s human capital as talent. It is this talent that we cultivate to participate within access control and systems integration projects which also helps to stimulate local economies particularly in underserved and under-invested communities.

Wilco’s ability to provide building wiring infrastructure services, smart technologies as well as an impact lens of deployment, offers a unique value advantage to any project or development. It is this 40 year honed approach that has ultimately positioned Wilco to become a premier provider of not only low voltage design but also high impact re-design of commercial real estate and multifamily communities and neighborhoods that focuses and centers technology, people and access.
